Bachelor’s Thesis 1 #

1. Overview and Scope #

The Bachelor’s Thesis 1 (BA1) shall provide bachelor (PTO) students the possibility to get in touch the formal aspects of scientific writing, first of all, and to provide valuable information about their internships for PTO’s staff members. It is a short report and not a scientific work of any kind, yet the main rules of scientific working shall apply.

2.1. General Information #

2.2. Applicable Rules #

  1. Collecting material for the BA1 starts during/after the students’ first internship (i.e. after semester 2, first internship report).
  2. Reporting continues throughout internships 2 and 3.
  3. As soon as the student has signed up for his/her Bachelor’s Thesis 2 (BA2) the BA2 supervisor becomes responsible for supervising and grading BA1.
  4. After the final internship a short presentation of all the internship work done (based on the internship reports) has to be given at the annual Meet and Greet event which serves as a platform for knowledge and experience (concerning internships and companies involved) exchange within the students’ peer group as well as an information opportunity for the reaching staff thereabout.
  5. The written BA1 itself is a brief, condensed summary report on the work terms, compiled from the internships reports written for work term seminars. It has to be submitted when signing up for the final (Bachelor) exam, (i.e. at least 8 weeks before the anticipated exam date).

Caution:

Not submitting the BA1 in time disqualifies the student from signing up for the Bachelor’s exam and has an impact on the grading!

2.3. Teamwork #

Teamwork is generally not permitted.

3. Topics, Language, Structure, Volume #

3.1. Topics of the Bachelor’s Thesis 1 #

A brief report on the internships, compiled from the Internship Reports submitted, including a presentation.

Don’t forget:

The presentation at the annual Meet and Greet event is a mandatory, integral part of BA1 and part of the overall grade.

3.1.1. Internship Reports #

Structure and content of the Internship Reports are subject to the course(s) “Seminar zur Betriebspraxis”.

3.2. Language and Writing Style #

The common Style Guide applies as far as applicable.

3.4. Volume #

BA1 shall consist of 1300 to 1500 words (this corresponds to about 5 printed DIN A4 pages excluding table of contents and cover sheet).

4. Submission #

BA1 has to be submitted on Moodle, the appropriate link will be assigned/issued for each year group.

5. Grading #

Grading is based 40% on the presentation at the Meet and Greet event and 60% on the written work. If the BA1 has not been submitted in time there’s a 10% penalty in grading for each week of delay!
